Ellis and Matty’s wedding was on this day in 2016. Happy anniversary! I thought I’d post a little about it because, apart from them being top people, their wedding had all the elements that represent me as a wedding photographer and what I look for.
I met Ellis and her bridesmaids, mum and dad for a few bridal prep shots at The Turnpike in saddleworth. At that point I knew it was going to be the best day. Fun. No-one stopped laughing from start to finish and that humour was mixed with the perfect elements: emotion, a big dollop of comedy, beautiful people and portraits. These all the elements a documentary wedding photographer can wish for. St Bartholomews church is a beautifully big church and holds two of my favourite shots ever. Matty looking at Ellis when she arrives at the alter and then the signing of the register shot here – that tall, grand and a classic seminal moment in anyone’s wedding ceremony.
I love to photograph at different venues because you’re always fresh. Southwood wedding venue in Halifax is a hidden gem. It’s set out perfectly for lots going on in various rooms for different part of the day; the ceremony and wedding breakfast room, the gardens for perfect portraits and for everyone to spill out to and just have a good time. Ellis and Matty’s wedding was high on octane on the party side; such a good laugh as well as the perfect family occasion! I’ll never forgot Matty’s mask, mum’s given a fireman’s lift on the dance and the odd baby lying around…..And all captured in the natural way that wedding should. And a big shout to Cheryl (love you on the decks in the evening!) & Dean whose wedding a photographed the year before and was how I came to meet Ellis & Matty.
